FitRadio is one of the best-known workout music apps, and for good reason. If you're looking at alternatives, the useful question is not which app is "best" but which one fits how you teach. Here is what FitRadio says it offers, what users report, and what to compare.
What FitRadio offers
From its homepage (checked Oct 26, 2026), FitRadio focuses on:
- DJ-curated mixes from DJs it describes as coming from Vegas, Miami and around the world.
- Audio-guided cardio coaching and workout programs.
- Running features that let you pick a goal pace or match the music to your stride.
- A gym and trainer tier that lists unlimited streaming for one device at a time and describes itself as a commercially licensed music service.
Its homepage does not mention 32-count phrasing or instructor-set BPM for class playlists. If your classes are choreographed, ask about both before you commit to any service.
What users report
Reviews are mixed, as they are for every app. Many users love the mixes. The recurring complaints on review aggregators are about reliability in class:
- Music stopping when the phone screen goes to sleep, or stopping at random.
- Crashes and freezes that force a restart, which one instructor called embarrassing mid-class.
- Songs coming through that the reviewer considered inappropriate, despite a clean-mixes setting.
- Confusion over an auto-renewing subscription bought on the website.
These are individual reviews, not test results, and any app can have a bad version. They're still the right checklist for a trial on your own phone and speaker.
The five things to compare
| Question | Why it matters in class |
|---|---|
| Is the music 32-count phrased? | Choreographed formats need combos to start on 1. DJ mixes flow well but aren't necessarily phrased for choreography. |
| Can you set the BPM? | You choose the intensity for your class instead of adapting to the mix. |
| Is playback gapless? | Silence between songs kills momentum and breaks counts. |
| How is explicit content handled? | One slipped lyric in a 6 a.m. class is a member complaint. |
| How do you cancel? | Look for cancel-anytime terms and what happens to the time you already paid for. |
Where Fitness Radio is different
- Phrasing first: tracks are 32-count phrased from the first downbeat and end on a 32.
- Your tempo: on Premium Pulse and up, pick the BPM and tracks are time-stretched to it.
- Gapless on every plan, including Standard Beat.
- Build or play: custom and smart playlists, Daily Mixes, DJ-curated playlists and 60-minute DJ mixes you can mix, match and re-tempo.
- Clean radio: songs flagged for cuss words never play on the radio stations.
- Straightforward billing: cancel any time and keep access through the period you paid for. Card details are held by the payment processor, not on Fitness Radio's servers.
Test it the way you teach
Run a Fitness Radio free trial through your real class: your phone or tablet, your studio speaker, your choreography at your tempo. That tells you more than any review.
